Sand Filters are a great alternative to
D.E. filters. Sand Filters do not require filter grid replacements and
quarterly maintenance as D.E. filters do. You
can clean a sand filter simply by back-washing the filter, which is performed during the pools or
spas routine maintenance. With DE Filters banned in some states due to
restrictions on disposal of the diatomaceous earth, Sand Filtration
is an environmentally safe alternative. The typical ROI of a sand filter
change out from a D.E. filter is 2 years. The sand will virtually last
forever and a typical warranty on a sand filter tank is 10 years, but a
typical life span is 20.
Sand filters are environmentally safe
and offer a great return on investment. Although Diatemaceous Earth
(DE) filters are commonly used throughout commercial pools, Diatemaceous
Earth is a known carcinogen and requires a notable amount of additional
inspection and maintenance to operate as compared to sand filters.
